Gel or paste type compsn. for cleansing the skin or mucous membranes comprising, as cleansing base, at least one polysaccharide polymer (I) in combination with a particulate water-insoluble inorganic cpd. (II). USE/ADVANTAGE - The compsns. can be used for dermatological and cosmetic purposes for cleansing delicate and irritated skin and mucous membranes e.g. of the anal and genito-anal regions without causing irritation or allergic reaction. The cleansing agents are free from surface active agents and therefore do not destroy the natural lipidic protective film present on the skin, so that the saprophytes bacteria normally present on the skin do not cause irritation. The polysaccharide imparts a viscoelasticity, a bio-adhesiveness and a lubricating action similar to that of natural mucus so that the compsn. spreads homogeneously over the skin, and the impurities and cellular debris present are fixed by the compsn. and are eliminated with it when it is rinsed off.
