Layered composite form of admin of a pharmaceutical from the periodontal pocket comprises a) a layer (4) contg an active ingredient (I), and b) upper and lower layers (2,6), such that the central layer (4) is a mixt of the active ingredient (I) and a physiologically-acceptable polymer that allows diffusion of (I) and is erodible in the environment of the periodontal pocket, and layers (2,6), placed directly on the upper and lower layers of (4) with no intermediate layer, are physiologically-acceptable biologically erodible polymers that allow diffusion of (I) when the material is placed in the periodontal pocket, and the periphery around the central layer has no coating. USE/ADVANTAGE - The combination is used in dentistry. The active material (I) may be a germicide, antimicrobial, antiinflammatory, collagenase inhibitor, or dental plaque solubilising agent. The combination liberates (I) in a controlled manner over a prolonged period with no 'surge' of liberation at the beginning of admin, unlike conventional monolithic compsns for periodontal admin.
