The figurine, designed to baked e.g. inside an Epiphany Cake, contains a small block, rod or ball (2) of a metal which can be revealed by a metal detector. The metal can be iron or an alloy such as steel, or any other metal which will be shown up by a detector, such as copper, aluminium or tin. In a variant, the metal can be in the form of filings or a powder incorporated in the clay during the manufacture of the figurine (1). The figurine is designed so that its presence can be detected inside the cake mixture left over after the cake shapes have been cut from it, allowing it to be removed before the mixture goes back into the machinery for re-mixing and re-use. The detector can provide either a sound or visual warning.
