The invention relates to a mammograph comprising an X-ray tube (1) carried by an arm ( beta 1) which can be moved in rotation in order to direct the X-ray beam (2) and a digital image detector (5) placed on a device (7) allowing it to be moved laterally in a direction opposite the direction of displacement of the tube during orientations of the beam along directions making an angle +/- alpha with respect to the normal to the plane ( pi ) of the digital detector (5), in order that the X-rays completely illuminate the detector, the displacements of the tube and of the detector being simultaneous.
