Competitive exclusion preparation comprising an anaerobic culture of microflora from the caecum of a bird

A preparation for the protection of birds which substantially lack any gut microflora, especially those of the lower gut, comprises a freeze-dried, anaerobic culture derived from at least one of the caeca of a bird having a population of gut microflora non-pathogenic to the bird to be protected. The preparation may comprise at least one antigen from a pathogen, preferably of the genus Salmonella, together with at least one colicin-producing strain of E.coli.
