PURPOSE:To make a discharge gate shiftable to a position optimum to a sheet size in length as well as to make sheet front ends alignable, by supporting the discharge gate of a sheet shiftably so as to vary a distance from the gate to a stopper. CONSTITUTION:When a paper cassettes 66 and 67 are set to paper feeders 17 and 18, a size of copying paper is detected by a detector, and a rotational quantity of the preprogrammed motor is designated, thus travel from a home position of a sheet discharge gate 23 is set up. On the basis of this travel, the motor rotates as far as the specified value, the sheet discharge gate 23 shifts to a position corresponding to length of the copying paper from the home position, and a distance l between the gate 23 and a stopper 9 is adjusted to the preset size. That is to say, the more the longer in the copying paper, the gate 23 is shifted to a position away from the home position and stopped at the specified position. Thus, front ends of many sized sheets in length can be aligned, and even if there are some curls, sheets can be stacked without fail.
