PURPOSE: To pertinently suppress a sea clutter (noise) generated due to reflection from sea waves by converting the probability distribution of sea clutter amplitude wave height from a Weibull distribution to a Rayleigh distribution via the multiplication of an input signal by the factor of a distance up to a target on the sea. ;CONSTITUTION: The reflective wave of a pulse signal transmitted from an antenna at a step 10 within the prescribed transmission range is received at a step 12, and subjected to each type of processes such as amplitude and frequency conversion, wave detection and STC. Then, the wave so processed is subjected to an A/D conversion process at a step 14, and inputted to a signal processing section 16. In this case, the received power of a radar and the distribution of a sea clutter depend on a distance R and, therefore, the section 16 multiplies the input signal by the factor of a distance up to a target on the sea, so that the factor of the distance R as the denominator of the received power will disappear. The probability distribution of the amplitude wave height of the sea clutter in the input signal is thereby converted to a Rayleigh distribution as the probability distribution of amplitude wave height, independent of the distance R. Then, the input signal is processed in LOGCFA or CFAR circuit, thereby providing the input signal (data) containing a suppressed sea clutter.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
