PURPOSE:To produce a high-performance fluid for traction drive which has a low dynamic viscosity, an excellent traction coefficient and a low volatility and can endure usage under high-temp. conditions, by employing a compd. having a particular structure as a base stock. CONSTITUTION:A fluid for traction drive comprising a compd. of formula 1 as a base stock. In the formula 1, R1-R3 are each H or a 1-4C alkyl, R4 is H, a methyl group or an ethyl group, n and k are each an integer of 1-3, and m is 1 or 2, provided that when a plurality of R1-R3 groups are prevent, they may be the same or different.
