PURPOSE:To maintain a temperature in a showcase within the range of proper temperatures regardless of daytime and nighttime by a method wherein showcase is provided with a regulating function capable of setting individually and variably the amount of setback within a range, in which the set value of temperature in the case is switched into a plurality of high-and-low stages in accordance with the change of an ambient temperature. CONSTITUTION:A thermostat is an electronic thermostat which switches the set value of a temperature in a case into a plurality of ranges of high-and-low stages based on the detecting value of a showcase ambient temperature sensor and controls the ON/OFF of a refrigerating machine by the output of the thermostat, which is obtained by comparing the detecting value of a cold air temperature sensor in the case with the set value. In this case, the amount of setback within respective ranges is set electrically and variably by a dial type regulating knob provided on the thermostat. Accordingly, a temperature in the case may be maintained at the optimum temperature regardless of daytime or nighttime, loss of commodities such as fresh foods and the like due to freezing may be prevented and the freshness of the commodities may be maintained by a method wherein the amount of setback is regulated optimally in accordance with the ambient conditions of the case.
