PURPOSE: To provide a sterilization monitoring device useful for ethylene oxide sterilization by providing the device with a wick means, which is impregnated with a chemical compound responding to ethylene oxide, a quantifier, and a highly pH-sensitive dye, an ethylene-oxide-impermeable liner, and a cover strip of ethylene-oxide-impermeable film. ;CONSTITUTION: A wick means 2 comprising paper 1 stuck to a Mylar (R) laminate 5 is coated with an acrylic adhesive layer 3 and is secured to the Surlyn (R) side 4 of the Mylar (R) laminate 5, and the Mylar (R) laminate 5 serves as the surface of a wrapping cover. The second small piece of a Mylar (R) base 6 is juxtaposed with the first Mylar (R) laminate 5 as they make contact with each other on their respective Surlyn (R) surfaces 4, 7, and holes 8, 9 are bored in the surfaces of packages so that ethylene oxide can approach the wick means 2. The wick means 2 is impregnated with a liquid impermanent obtained by dissolving a magnesium chloride hydrate as a chemical compound responding to the ethylene oxide, tartaric acid as an indicator, and bromphenol blue sodium salt as a pH indicator in water.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
