PURPOSE:To reduce vibration and noise with a simple constitution by mounting only a single balancer rotating in the opposite direction to a crankshaft with the same speed to eliminate the primary moment of inertia. CONSTITUTION:A balancer shaft 22 disposed parallel to a crankshaft 14 has balancers 25, 26 arranged on both ends. The interval between the balancers 25, 26 is set to U and the center of the interval is set to the center between second and third cylinders 3b, 3c. The balancer shaft 22 is rotated in the opposite direction to the crankshaft 14 with the same rotational speed and balancers 25, 26 are respectively set to the weight m1, m2, and in relation to the crankshaft as shown in the formulae, where r is the rotational radius of a crank pin, r1 and r2 the rotational radii of the balancers 25, 26, S the pitch between the first, second and third, fourth cylinders, L the pitch between the second and third cylinders and beta an angle at which the balancer is mounted.
