PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing a low sulfur.low viscosity asphalt distillation fraction by vacuum-distilling a distillate obtained from a heavy oil direct-desulfurizing device having specific combined catalysts, and to provide a method for producing heavy oil or asphalt from the distillate as a base material. ;CONSTITUTION: A heavy oil is subjected to a hydrogenation treatment with a heavy oil direct-desulfurizing device, and the produced oil is vacuum-distilled. A low sulfur.low viscosity asphalt distillate obtained by the method is used as a compounding base material for heavy oil or asphalt. In the desulfurizing device, catalysts are charged from an inlet in the order of the magnitudes of their stability indices so that the catalysts having stability indices of ≥30 occupy totally ≥30vol.% and further so that the catalysts having stability indices of ≥40 occupy ≥30vol.%.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
