PURPOSE:To reduce wear and distortion by providing a nonmetallic compound layer with the chief components of a sulfide and a nitride on the surface of a high alloy carbon steel which is set to a specified hardness by means of heat treatment including a specified tempering temperature via the diffusion layer of nitrogen. CONSTITUTION:A vane 9 which, together with a piston 8, etc., forms the compression mechanism part of a rotary compressor slides in a vane slot 9'. In this case, the vane 9 is formed with a high alloy carbon steel 23 as a base material having a hardness of Rockwell C scale 55-65 due to heat treatment including tempering temperature 570-610 deg.C, a nonmetallic compound layer 21 with the chief components of a sulfide and a nitride which is formed in the vicinity of the surface of the high alloy carbon steel 23, and the diffusion layer 22 of nitrogen formed under the nonmetallic compound layer 21. Thereby, the occurrence of the distortion of the vane 9 after the sulfide/nitride immersing treatment can be prevented, the hardness of the base material 23 can be favorably maintained, and a wear resistant property can be improved.
