PURPOSE:To realize a stable slow motion reproduction by obtaining the mean value of plural pieces of sampled/held error information and changing the reference voltage of a drive circuit by an amount corresponding to the difference between said mean error and the prescribed speed error value. CONSTITUTION:Whether a slow motion reproduction state exists or not is descriminated by an error detector 8 to which the digital speed error signal (c) obtained from a digital frequency discriminator 1 is inputted. Then the detector 8 outputs the center value to a D/A converter 9 in the form of the output signal (j) if the slow motion reproduction state is not confirmed. If this reproduction mode is confirmed, it is descriminated whether a capstan motor 6 is driven at a fixed speed or not in an intermittent drive mode. If the constant speed drive state is confirmed, the digital error signal is sampled and the value of this signal is written to a memory. This action is repeated by the fixed frequency to obtain a mean speed error S. When the error S is larger than the maximum speed error Smax, the output value (j) is decreased just by 1 since the speed is less than the set level. Then the motor 6 is accelerated. While the motor 6 is decelerated when the error S is smaller than the minimum allowable error Smin.
