PURPOSE: To thermally decompose the subject substance through a method which is useful when thermal decomposition of an azide-containing substance is required, specifically when preparing ablative imaging materials, by using a specific organic metal complex as a catalyst precursor. ;CONSTITUTION: A substance contains (A) at least one polymer containing at least about 25 wt.% azide group and (B) at least one catalyst precursor of the formula [wherein L1 is none or 1-12 ligands contributing π-electrons chosen from a (substituted) (non-)cyclic unsaturated compound or a (substituted) carbocyclic- or heterocyclic aromatic compound, each ligand donating from 2 to 24 π-electrons to the valence shell of M; L2 is none or 1-24 ligands contributing an even number of σ-electrons chosen from mono-, di- or tridentate ligand, each ligand donating 2, 4 or 6 σ-electrons to the valence shell of M; L3 is none or from 1-12 ligands contributing one σ-electron to the valence shell of M] which is an organic metal complex generating a catalyst for thermal decomposition of the polymer by liberating at least one coordination site on thermal decomposition.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
