PURPOSE: To facilitate maintenance and control without using measuring chemicals by confirming the presence of unreacted potassium permanganate by detecting the red color of a permanganate ion using absorptiometry when the injection of potassium permanganate is controlled. ;CONSTITUTION: A red color sensor as a potassium permanganate excessive injection warning sensor is constituted by arranging a light source with a wavelength of 520-550nm on one side of the passage of a transparent piping part while arranging a light quantity sensor A such as a photomulitplier on the opposite side thereof and further arranging a light quantity sensor B keeping the quantity of the light from the light source constant to perform the adjustment of the quantity of light. The change in the quantity of light generated when excessive potassium permanganese flows in from a usual state shows constant quantity of luminosity at a usual time but, when red water passes through a passage, the quantity of luminosity is reduced. This reduction quantity becomes the sensitivity showing that excessive potassium permanganate is injected in this sensor. When the quantity of luminosity is reduced to predetermined sensitivity or more from a usual state, an alarm signal is emitted.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
