PURPOSE:To provide a waveguide type optical switch which consumes less electric power. CONSTITUTION:This waveguide type optical switch has a first substrate 1 on which a first optical waveguide 11 of a bent type is formed and of which bent part is formed as a light transparent surface, and a second substrate 2 on which a refractive index change region 4 including a layer 43 consisting of an electrochromic material disposed on the side face inclusive of the light transparent surface of the first substrate 1 and a second optical waveguide 21 inclusive of the incident end to be made incident with the light from the light transparent surface are formed and which is fixed to the first substrate 1 via the refractive index changing region 4 at the plane having the incident end of the second optical waveguide 21.
