PURPOSE: To eliminate complicated wiring connections of optical fibers at the input/output end part of the optical waveguide type optical star coupler, to make the constitution simple and reduce the overall size, and to reduce the cost by inserting the connector fitting pins of a two-unit optical connector into optical connector fitting pin insertion grooves of a substrate. ;CONSTITUTION: Two plane optical waveguide type optical star couplers 26a and 26b are stuck on a spacer 23 while having surfaces where optical waveguides are formed on the side of the spacer 23 and further two substrates 25a and 25b are fitted and fixed to the surfaces of the plane optical waveguide type optical star couplers 26a and 26b where no optical waveguide is formed. On one-surface sides of the two substrates 25a and 25b, the V grooves 24 for MT connector fitting pin insertion of the two-unit MT connector are formed and the two substrates 25a and 25b are fitted and fixed to the surfaces where the optical waveguides are not formed. Further, the interval 29a between the optical waveguides of the two plane optical waveguide type optical star couplers 26a and 26b is equalized to the pitch between the optical fibers of the two-unit MT.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
