PRODUCTION OF 2-FORMYL-1,4-BUTANEDIOL

PURPOSE: To provide a method for production in which 2-formyl-1,4-butandiol can be produced in good yield by using a small amount of a rhodium catalyst. ;CONSTITUTION: The reaction of 2-buten-1,4-diol with hydrogen and carbon monoxide is carried out in the presence of (a) a rhodium compound, (b) a tris(substituted aryl)phosphite expressed by the formula P(OR)₃ (groups R denote ≥7C substituted aryl groups and three R groups may be the same or different) and having 2080-2090cm^-1 electronic parameter and 135-190° steric parameter and (c) a bis(diphenylphosphino)alkane expressed by the formula Ph₂P-(CH₂)_n- PPh₂ under temperature conditions of ≤80°C to produce 2-formyl-1,4-butanediol.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
