PURPOSE: To obtain a polymer-metal cluster composite material consisting of metallic fine particles uniformly dispersed in a polymer matrix by dissolving a metal complex in a monomer, polymerizing and solidifying the monomer to form a polymer-metal complex composite material and heat-treating the material under optimum condition. ;CONSTITUTION: This polymer-metal cluster composite material having high elastic modulus and composed of a thermoplastic or thermosetting polymer matrix and metal particles having particle diameter of 10-20Å and uniformly dispersed in the matrix is produced by dissolving a metal complex (e.g. palladium acetylacetonate) in a monomer (e.g. methyl methacrylate), adding a polymerization initiator (e.g. benzoyl peroxide) to the solution, heating at 70°C for about 35min, pouring into a glass mold, heating at 45°C for 24hr to effect the polymerization and solidification of the solution and obtain a yellow transparent polymer- metal complex composite material and finally heat-treating the material under the optimum conditions comprising the heating rate of 1°C/min, the final temperature of 140°C and the heat-treating period of 2.5hr.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
