PURPOSE: To provide a paint-film thickness measuring instrument which can reduce the burden of workers in charge of inspection and reduce the number of workers by automating recognition as to whether or not an undried painted surface is running. ;CONSTITUTION: An image of the painted surface of a sample is picked up by a measuring portion 1 to measure information about surface roughness after the application of paint, and surface roughness is computed by a computing portion 12 from the surface roughness information measured by the measuring portion 1, and the time rate of change of the roughness is computed by a computing portion 113 from the surface roughness information computed by the computing portion 12. Thereafter, a judging portion 4 compares the time rate of change of the roughness computed by the computing portion 113 with a predetermined value; when the time rate of change of the roughness is at or greater than the predetermined value, the paint is judged to be not running and reported as being normal, whereas when the time rate of change of the roughness is smaller than the predetermined value, the paint is judged to be running and reported as being abnormal.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
