PURPOSE:To enable a short circuit breaking test at a low cost and with higher reliability by using the minimum capacity of a test equipment. CONSTITUTION:A short circuit breaking test of a resistance breaking buffer type gas breaker 3 is performed using a simulation resistance 9 in place of a breaking resistance, a short circuit current from a current source 1 is supplied to a resistance breaking puffer type gas breaker 3 and the short circuit current supplied is shielded, after the breaking of the current, a voltage corresponding to a transient recovery voltage is applied to a resistance breaking puffer type gas breaker 3 near a zero point of the current shielded from a voltage source 2. To be more specific, in the testing of a main contact part 8, an insulating matter or a simulation resistance 9 with a low resistance value enough to allow the attenuation of the transient recovery voltage is used as insulation resistance 9 and in the testing of a resistance contact part 10, the insulation resistance 9 is short circuited or the simulation resistance with a higher resistance value enough to allow the supply of a rated breaking current as such 9.
