PURPOSE: To support plural formating forms by the same IC memory card. ;CONSTITUTION: The final block of a common memory 12 is provided with a format form control area and a format ID is stored in the area. Therefore, a file control system is capable of judging the use and processing method of the memory card 10 by confirming the format ID. Therefore, an IC memory card 10 and a host device become possible to support each of plural formating forms. When a leveling format is adopted, in particular, the life of the memory card 10 can be lengthened. By confirming the format ID of the card 10, an event that the card for which a leveling format is performed is erronesouly accessed by a standard format form, can be prevented.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
