PURPOSE: To provide the character recognition device which automatically generates deformation patterns of deformation and defects of impressions and stamped characters in quantities over a wide range from a small number of image data and has a high recognition precision. ;CONSTITUTION: Image data on a character from a basic pattern input part 1 are inputted as a basic pattern, and stored in a basic pattern storage part 2; and information on deformation, a defect extent, a position, the rotational angle and movement quantity of the image, etc., is inputted to a deformation condition input part 5 and stored in a deformation condition storage part 4. According to the stored information, the deformation pattern generation part 3 processes the basic pattern by rotation, movement, etc., through the operation of an expansion filter or contraction filter to generate the deformation pattern, which is stored in a deformation pattern storage part 7. A basic pattern registration part 6 registers the deformation pattern, stored in the deformation pattern storage part 7, in a basic pattern storage part 2 to perform deformation again.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
