Described are a method and an apparatus for determining the weight of the cargo present in a ship. This involves making use of the data in the bill of tonnage (certificate of tonnage) for the ship (vessel), and measuring the draught and the orientation of the ship with the aid of pressure sensors fitted in its hull. According to the invention, this includes corrections for trim/list of the ship and the shape of the hull, in order to achieve improved accuracy of measurement. Also described is a simplified method for calibrating the pressure sensors, use being made of a fluid system connected to the pressure sensors. IMAGE
