The device has an axle (10) for fastening a wheel and an axle body arrangement (12) for supporting the axle in a chassis. The axle and/or the axle body arrangement include a load-carrying component (14). A load sensor arrangement (16) determines an axle load (F) acting on the axle. The load sensor arrangement includes a ferrousmagnetic partial area (18) of the load-carrying component and a measuring arrangement (20) for measuring a load-conditioned change of a magnetic characteristic of the partial area. A magnetic field sensor (24) measures a magnetic field produced from the partial area. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining an axle load of a vehicle with an axle for fastening a wheel.
