For taking off light liquid from a mineral oil separator, a collection shaft 1 is used in this separator, which collection shaft, at its top end, has an orifice 3 for removing the light liquid 11 by suction using a suction line introduced through a maintenance opening in the upper closure (lid) of the mineral oil separator. From the lower region of the collection shaft 1, a line 5 exits which is fixed to a float 7 in the region of its free end having an upwards-directed opening 10. The float 7 is tared in such a manner that the opening 10 of the line 5 is always disposed just above the phase boundary 15 between water 12 present in the separator and light liquid 11 floating thereon. Light liquid 11 flows through the line 5 into the collection shaft 1 without the danger arising that water 12 also enters into the collection shaft 1 for light liquid 11. IMAGE
