Apparatus for alleviating disruptions in the circadianrhythms of a mammal comprises a pair of electrodes 11mountable on either side of the head 12. The apparatusfurther comprises a voltage generator for generating avoltage alternating at a rate of between 5 and 40 cyclesper second with a peak to peak voltage value of at least100V. The electrodes being connected to the generator sothat an alternating electric field is generated betweenthem. In a method of alleviating circadian disruptions ina mammal, the mammal's brain region is subjected to theaforementioned alternating electric field.
