VEHICLE HEADLAMP SYSTEM WITH SERIES HIGH BEAM DAYTIME RUNNING LAMP OPERATION

A headlamp system provides for the high beamheadlamp filaments to be connected in series across thesupply voltage for half voltage energization in daytimerunning lamp (DRL) operation when the ignition switch isclosed, a DRL enabling switch is open and the headlampswitch is not in a headlamp on condition. In normalhigh beam headlamp operation, the high beam filamentsare connected across the supply voltage in parallel forfull voltage energization. The DRL enabling switch maybe a park brake switch. The headlamp switch may have afog lamp energizing condition to energize fog lamps; andthe system permits such energization when the headlampsare connected in series but not when they are connectedin parallel in normal high beam operation. A circuit isprovided to sense when one of the high beam filaments isburned out and latch the daytime running light operationoff with a signal to the vehicle operator.
