A method of inducing anesthesia or conscioussedation while avoiding serious hypotensive episodescomprising the administration of a parenterally activebenzodiazpine in conjunction with an opiate analgesicfollowed by the parenteral administration of from about 1 toabout 3 mg of a long-acting pure narcotic antagonist. Theantagonist may be administered during the time intervalcommencing immediately prior to the procedure and continuinguntil about 3-5 hours after administration of theopiate-benzodiazepine combination.
