METHOD OF PRE-TREATING PEAT FOR USE IN BIOFILTERS FOR WASTEWATER TREATMENT AND USE THEREOF

Disclosed is a method of pre-treating peat for use in abiofilter for wastewater treatment, wherein said peat ismixed with a pre-determined concentration of a Ca-containing compound or an equivalent thereof and a pre-determined concentration of a Fe-containing compound or anequivalent thereof. When used in a biofilter the mixtureof peat that is so obtained and contains a iron-containingcompound and a Ca-containing compound, preferably lime,allows efficient elimination of total phosphorus and colorin the effluent water from the very first day of thetreatment.
