A portable auxiliary locking device for use witha door hung in a door jamb having a latch hole forreceiving a horizontally extendible latch bolt. Thelocking device includes a plate thin enough to fit in thegap between the door and the doorjamb and long enough toextend inside the door and the doorjamb when the door isclosed. The plate has at least one vertical slot and atongue extending transversely from one end of the platedimensioned to fit within the latch hole. A cross plateslides into a slot in the plate until a notch on thebottom edge of the cross plate engages the plate and locksthe position of the cross plate. The cross plate includesan off-centered threaded aperture to accept a bolt. Thebolt is adapted to be threaded through the aperture untilit makes firm contact with the door or doorjamb.
