The present invention relates to a transgenic animal in the genome of which is introduced a DNA fragment coding for a transferrin of human origin, particularly a precursor of a transferrin of human origin, placed under the control of elements which are necessary for its expression, and preparation process. The invention also relates to the utilization of such transgenic animal as animal model in order to evaluate or select a potential medicament intended to the treatment or prevention of an infection induced by a pathogenic organism having a receptor capable of binding a human origin transferrin.
