A transportable low-cost self-contained haemodialysis device requiring no continuous supply of pure water and consuming small amounts of water, supplies and electricity. The device comprises all the components needed for haemodialysis and is characterised in that the dialysis bath flows through a closed circuit (11, 12), a predetermined amount of pure water is used for one dialysis session, and the bath is prepared from powdered chemicals dissolved before dialysis begins. The amount of water lost by the patient is measured by observing the increase in the amount in the vessel (4). A degassing device is not required in said circuit, which is also easy to sterilise. The circuit (13, 14) for circulating the patient's blood through the dialyser (1) is conventional. Said device is particularly suitable for providing haemodialysis in emergencies and/or wherever treatment facilities are limited.
