For rearranging objects of different types, which are deposited by type onto pallets, into groups, each deposited on a support, of objects (42) of a plurality of types, pallets of the different object types are continuously depalletised in layers by the depalletised objects being delivered to individual conveying means (17, 18, 19), from which the objects are transferred to a classification conveyor (20 to 22; 23 to 25; 26 to 28) intended for the particular object type and provided with an associated classification storage means (29 to 37), and are intermediately stored in the latter (i.e. by type). Then, the intermediately stored objects (42) are then withdrawn, in the number and sequence required for forming a group, from the said storage means (29 to 37) by means of the respectively assigned classification conveyor (20 to 28), and fed at least to one group-forming station (13 to 16) and in this are deposited in the desired arrangement within the group to be formed on a base.
