The invention relates to an agent for oxidative dyeing of hair, obtained by mixing an emulsified component (A) (dye carrier substance) containing 6 to 30 wt.% of a thickener mixture and an emulsified component (B) containing an oxidative hair dye and 3 to 12 wt.% of a thickener mixture, characterized in that (a) the thickener mixture in component (A) contains 60 to 100 wt.% of C10?-C24? fatty alcohols, referred to the total weight of this thickener mixture, (b) the thickener mixture in component (B) contains 75 to 100 wt.% of C10?-C24? fatty alcohols, referred to the total weight of this thickener mixture, and (c) the mixing ratio of component (A) to component (B) is 1:1.7 to 1:3. The invention also relates to a process for oxidative dyeing of hair using this agent. The new agent for oxidative dyeing of hair is well tolerated by the skin, has a good covering power particularly for dyeing greying or grey hair, and is distinguished by a consistency which allows the agent to be applied by brush and prevents the agent from dripping from the hair.
