For the inexpensive application of contoured display surfaces of different colour identification, the following process steps are envisaged: a) a plurality of coloured layers corresponding to different colour identifications are coated one above the other onto a light-permeable plastic supporting member (4); b) in the region of the first display surfaces (1) the masking coloured layers are removed in a contoured manner by laser cutting down to the intended colour identification; c) in the region of at least one further display surface (2;3) all the coloured layers are removed in a contoured manner and the intended colour identification is applied by the subsequent removal by laser cutting of a superposed foil.
