The antenna is provided as a monopole rod antenna with an electrical length which is half the employed radio wavelength. An auxiliary non-radiating antenna element is provided is provided by a coaxial line between the rod antenna and the housing of the hand-held radio device. The coaxial line is fitted to the housing on the rear side which faces away from the user, in combination with an adjustable pivot coupling, allowing the angle of the rod antenna to be adjusted.
