The disc player has a magazine for storing the disc and a disc transfer mechanism for transferring the selected disc between the playback position outside the magazine and the storage position for the magazine. The carriages are stacked on each other and pivotally supported within the magazine. The carriage is extracted from the stack by lifting the tip of the carriage over the selected carriage. Following lifting of the carriage, the selected carriage is withdrawn from the magazine to the regeneration position. When the selected carriage is moved to the playback position, the disc on the selected carriage up and down carriage coaxially opposes the shaft extending through the spindle holes of the disc on the carry up and down the selected disc, thereby preventing the selected carriage from moving. The sealable gap between the two shafts causes the selected disc to be moved. The gap is sealed except when the carriage is moved from the magazine to the magazine, thereby preventing the disc and their carriage from moving due to vibration or tilting of the cabinet. When the device is in the stop mode, the magazine is moved to penetrate any carriage that can hold discs of different sizes, thereby preventing the smaller disc from moving to the larger disc recess.
