The pulse system uses a stable quartz oscillator (7) with a frequency which is a multiple of the nominal system frequency, obtained via a frequency divider (8). The light pulses provided by the headlights of an approaching vehicle are detected via photodetector (3) connected in a synchronsiation pulse input circuit, together with a radio receiver, an automatic priority switch (5) coupling their respective input pulses to the frequency divider (8). The synchronisation circuit is used to prevent glare between passing vehicles without the need for clipping the headlights, to maintain full visibility.
