A method for operation of an installation for the drying of digester sludge and which are suitable for the process plant

To dry sludge matter, it is carried by at least one continuous conveyor through a radiant heat zone which initially raises its temp. to a point where it starts to become tacky. In a second zone, the radiant heat is structured to convert the tacky condition and change the material into a loose structure which can be ejected from the conveyor. Also claimed is an assembly with an open conveyor channel with a screw conveyor and a radiant heat assembly with at least one heat radiator, followed by a conveyor. The conveyor channel has two heating zones, with the zone change at the point where the sludge starts to become tacky. The speed of material travel, material vol. and the screw conveyor speed are structured so that the sludge remains in a suitable state to be carried by the screw conveyor. The following conveyor carries the material through a final drying stage.
