Process for preparing calcium hydroxide-rich binders for concretes, mortars, plasters, renders, screeds or slurries and use of the binders thus prepared

Up to now there is no way of adding commercial calcium hydroxide in relatively large amounts to concretes, mortars, plasters, renders or screeds. Calcium hydroxide is necessary, on the one hand in reinforced concretes, mortars, plasters, renders or screeds, for the alkalinity to be maintained at a pH of greater than 9 even during long-term carbonating processes to ensure the passivation of the steel, and also, on the other hand in masonry and rendering mortars and screeds, to enable sealing and crack-healing rearrangement processes to take place. The preparation and the use of granulated calcium hydroxide makes it possible to prepare calcium hydroxide-rich binders for concretes and mortars. The calcium hydroxide-rich binders prepared using granulated calcium hydroxide result in concretes, mortars, plasters, renders or screeds in a lower water requirement in processing and the shrinkage is substantially lower than when commercial calcium hydroxide is used. The calcium hydroxide-rich binders can be used for reinforced and unreinforced concrete and mortar constructions both in new buildings and in building maintenance.
