The invention relates to a method for determining the location of vehicles in public passenger transport and for deriving passenger information from the location. The object of the invention, to obtain information for the passengers and for the control centre in a simple, cost-effective, reliable and automatic manner, is achieved in that the current location of the vehicle is determined by means of a localisation system and in that passenger information is triggered automatically when predetermined locations are reached. The current location of the vehicle is determined in particular by means of a GPS receiver (global positioning system) for satellite signals.
