Prodn. of textured high temp. superconducting yttrium-barium-copper oxide layers on low m.pt. tape substrates

A process for producing textured high temp. superconducting YBa2Cu3Ox layers on tape-like substrates having a low melting point by synthesis carried out on the substrate under the influence of oxygen of the YBa2Cu3Ox phase from reaction partners in the form of halogen-contg. cpds. of Y, Ba and Cu or in the form of halogen-contg. cpds. of Y and Ba and metallic Cu and/or Cu oxide is characterised in that the reaction partners in the synthesis are in close contact with at least one metal in the platinum gp. and that the synthesis is carried out at a temp. between 900 deg C and the melting temp. of the tape-like substrate in an O2 or an O2-contg. atmos. of constant compsn. Thus a temp. gradient of at least 20 K/cm is maintained.
