Prodn. of textured layer of metal oxide superconductor - by applying barrier layer to substrate and depositing superconducting material to barrier layer

Prodn. of textured layer of metal-oxide superconductor material with high transition temp. on a strip-like metal substrate comprises: (a) applying a barrier layer on the substrate preventing diffusion between the superconductor material and the metal of the substrate; (b) depositing or forming the superconducting layer of texture, dependent on texture of the barrier layer, on the barrier layer. The substrate (2) has a pattern (3) of several defect tracks (3j) running in a lengthwise direction (y) to the substrate (2). The tracks lead to corresponding orientation of one of the crystal axes in the barrier layer (8). USE - In semiconductor technology.
