A tapping fitting for the connection of a pipe onto a branch line has a housing (1) which exhbits an inlet-side connection stub (2), which can be connected to the pipe, an outlet-side connection stub (6), which can be connected to the branch line, and a receiving bore (3) which is arranged coaxially with respect to the inlet-side connection stub (2), is suitable for receiving a drilling tool, by means of which a bore in alignment with the inlet-side connection stub (2) can be produced in the pipe, and can be closed by means of a blind plug (5), and the tapping fitting further has a valve unit (9) which exhibits an actuating spindle (10), mounted parallel to and at a distance from the inlet-side connection stub (2) in the housing (1) and actuable from outside the housing (1), a spindle nut (14), which is seated on the actuating spindle (10) and can be moved upwards and downwards on the actuating spindle (10) by actuating the same, and a valve body (16) which is in operating connection with the spindle nut (14) and, by upwards and downwards movement of the spindle nut (14), can be adjusted between a release position, in which the valve body (16) is arranged outside a drill channel (4) formed between the inlet-side connection stub (2) and the receiving bore (3) and provided in the housing (1), and a blocking position in which the valve body (16) blocks the inlet-side connection stub (2).
