The ozone occurring intensively at ground level can considerably impair the well-being and health particularly in the case of people suffering from respiratory disorders and hypersensitive people and the elderly and children. Currently, apart from avoidance, no potential method is known for counteracting this noxa. Prophylactic and palliative medicaments are only at the animal testing stage - if their application is expedient at all because of possible side effects. The present invention solves the problem by trapping ground-level ozone by C=C-double bond-containing molecules as the ozonide and thus making it harmless. Substrates which are suitable are unsaturated natural and/or synthetic odorants/aroma compounds which do not represent a hazard for humans, animals and the environment. To carry out the reduction of ozone concentration in practice, these odorants, depending on volatility, are admixed with evaporation retardants and/or solubilisers and are applied to supports to increase the surface area. If these additives likewise contain C=C-double bonds, an increase in efficiency occurs. Advantages of the process according to the invention are that it requires no energy, is not very complex and is simple to handle.
