The present invention relates to a method of preparation in a liquid hydrocarbon of a catalyst of the ziegler type - natta based on vanadium compound and of a titanium compound that is precipitated by a reduction reaction on a support of magnesium chloride. The precipitation is carried out by bringing into contact with a reducing agent and of titanium, vanadium, selected from among the organometallic compounds with a compound of vanadium, titanium, both a compound soluble in the liquid hydrocarbon, and of a spherical support particular magnesium dichloride and of an electron donor compound. The catalyst prepared is used in particular for the manufacture of elastomeric copolymers of propylene, in particular according to a process for the copolymerization in the gaseous phase.
