The invention relates to a modelling device serving to simulate and visually represent geological phenomena, especially a water table piezometric level. In accordance with the invention, the modelling device (10) includes a tub (11) with a transparent viewing face (11.1), containing a mass of sand (S) representing a terrain cross-section, as well as a viewing panel (15) interposed between the inner surface of the face (11.1) and the mass of sand (S), the said panel consisting, on the viewing face side, of a slotted plate (16) exhibiting a succession of vertical cutouts which is stuck against this viewing face, and, on the mass of sand side, with a retaining grid (21), so as to delimit columns of levels (20) making it possible to directly view the variations in the level of a liquid introduced into the mass of sand all along the water table thus represented.
