A magnetron includes a cathode (25) and an anode in a vacuum chamber (21) radially spaced from each other to define an interaction region (28) in which a magnetic field is produced parallel to the region d 'interaction. The anode receives positive high voltage pulses while the cathode and the vacuum chamber are at a reference potential (ground). The anode is of an annular configuration positioned coaxially around the cathode and is provided with cavities (27) facing the cathode to define a region of annular interaction between the anode and the cathode.
